F1 in Schools German Champions 2010 crowned!
Dated: 17/05/2010
Trophies go to Aachen - North Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria to send teams to the F1 in Schools World Championship in Singapore
The fourth F1 in Schools German National Final, highlight of a successful season, welcomed 22 teams from all over Germany, among them six junior teams aged 11-14 competing for the Junior Championship.
All came to Munich as champions of their regional finals, all talented, ambitious and willing to top the season by winning the national title, along with the right to represent Germany at the World Championships to take place in Singapore in September.
Fans, visitors and organizers were fascinated by the extraordinary performance these young participants in the multidisciplinary international project “F1 in Schools” delivered to the jury as well as to the interested audience.
The events back drop was a very special venue – the “German Museum Traffic Centre” at the very heart of Munich, displaying a remarkable exhibition of engineering milestones covering two centuries.
At the end of an extremely challenging competition at an incredible high level the difficult decision was up to the jury – who was the very best?
The title went to Aixtrem Racing, a team of four boys from Aachen near the Belgian border, who had participated last year as well but had not made it to the Nationals back then. This season they obviously did their homework and delivered an outstanding performance! Clemens, Leonard and both Niklas’ are now looking forward to meeting teams from all over the world at the F1 in Schools World Championships in Singapore!
BayWa-F1Team is celebrating as well: they ended up second and won the right to participate in the WCS forming a collaborating team with NC-Racing, who are the USA runners-up.
Trophies and medallions were handed over by Mr. Klaus Josef Lutz, CEO of BayWa AG, representing the main sponsor of the event.
As always in a competition there have to be winners and “second” winners – sweet tears of joy and bitter tears of disappointment live side by side. But after all in a project like F1 in Schools all students involved are truly winners!
The achievements that come with their successful participation prove that Germany may hope for excellent and qualified young academics. If asked, any of them will explain enthusiastically that engineering, maths and science are no boring subjects at all, but offer exciting experiences and even fun!
